Pratt Institute - this 110,000 sq.ft. recreational and athletic facility combined the need for classroom, laboratory and athletic spaces by building the athletic structure with and over the classroom/laboratory building. This innovative use of space saved 50,000 sq.ft. of land for other uses. Of additional interest is the fact that the building is heated and cooled by extracting ground water from a 500' deep well and with refrigerating equipment developing the necessary heating or cooling for the structure. Surplus water is recharged into the ground at 250'. The athletic program is complete with the exception that there is no pool.
